2. When to send your wedding thank you cards
Wedding thank you cards are usually sent within a month of the wedding. This gives you plenty of time to choose the design you like the most (if you can find a design that matches your wedding invitation, even better), to personalise it with a gorgeous photograph of you and your beloved, and to think about the wording that best expresses your feelings.
As a general rule, you should receive your wedding photos approximately one month after the ceremony. These precious memories are perfect for embellishing your cards.
To make sure that your writing goes smoothly, prepare your messages beforehand. Keep track of all the guests you sent wedding invitations to, in a notebook or a spreadsheet. As soon as you receive your first gift, write your first thank you message. Feel free to send your thank you notes in batches. Get a gift from a guest, write your message of gratitude and send it out directly. That way, you won’t feel too overwhelmed later on.
3. Writing wedding thank you cards: proper etiquette
To ensure that your notes express your gratitude well, here are some ground rules to follow:
- - Make sure to include all names on your thank you card. Double check who signed your gift card and mention them in your note.
- - Always remember to say thank you. It might seem obvious, but this little word has to be front and center on your card.
- - Mention the generous gift you received. You can simply thank your guest for it, or let them know how you’ll use the gift. Be specific in your message and make it personal. They will love to hear all about the honeymoon you’re planning with the cash you received, where you will fit in this new, beautiful art piece they gifted you and so on. If they were a big help with the wedding planning, for instance, mention that in your message, as well. They will love that special, personal touch.
